Extinct Spirits Releases Single-Cask Whiskey Inspired by the Dodo

Extinct Spirits has launched a limited-edition single-cask whiskey themed around the dodo bird. The release leans into irony — a spirit named for extinction, bottled in defiance of it.

Garry says:

They bottled extinction and called it a marketing strategy.

I was reading about a new whiskey called Dodo, made by a company called Extinct Spirits. It’s a single-cask release, named after a bird that’s been dead for over three centuries and never even knew what a cask was.

The label has a dodo on it, looking mildly offended. The press release talks about ‘honoring lost species’ and ‘sustainability storytelling’. I drank a glass of something else last night and thought about how the dodo didn’t ask to be on a bottle. Neither did the whiskey, probably.

They’re selling it for more than a decent meal in Chiang Mai. I don’t know if the dodo would’ve approved. I do know he’d have preferred a mango.
