Heineken Ordered to Pay €100 Million in Greek Brewery Case

A Greek court ruled Heineken must pay over €100 million to Macedonian Thrace Brewery in a long-running competition dispute.

They charge for beer, then charge for charging.

I was reading about a Greek court ordering Heineken to pay more than €100 million to Macedonian Thrace Brewery. The case revolves around alleged anti-competitive behavior — things like exclusive distribution deals and pressure on retailers to sideline MTB’s brands.

The dispute dragged on for years, with MTB claiming it was squeezed out of its own market. Heineken denied wrongdoing, but the court found in favor of the smaller brewer — a rare win for local players against global giants.

MTB is based in Komotini, near the Turkish border. They make good lager. I drank one there in 2007, before everything got so expensive and so serious.
