I was reading about High West releasing Act 14 of their Midwinter Night’s Dram. It’s their twentieth anniversary, so they’ve bottled another batch of that high-rye, barrel-strength blend — aged in used sherry and port casks, then married and finished in new oak.
They do this every year like clockwork, like monks chanting the same prayer, except the prayer is bourbon and the monks wear cowboy hats and talk about terroir in the Rockies.
The label says 'Act 14' — as if the whole thing were a play, and we’re all just waiting for the curtain call. I’ve never seen the first act. Or the second. Or any act, really. But I know the whiskey’s good. And I know winter doesn’t need a dram to feel long.
