Finnish drinks firm Olvi stumbles on soft European sales

Olvi’s share price dropped after a profit warning citing weaker-than-expected earnings in parts of Europe.

Garry says:

Europe is tired of beer. Or tired of paying for it.

I was reading this morning about Olvi — a Finnish company, makes beer, cider, soft drinks, even some spirits. Solid outfit. Been around since 1929. They just warned investors their profits will be lower than expected, mainly because sales in some European markets came up short.

They didn’t name which countries, just said ‘some European markets’. Could be Germany. Could be Poland. Could be Finland itself — people there have been staring at their fridge longer lately, deciding if the third bottle is worth it. Or maybe it’s just summer — everyone’s outside, not buying, not drinking, just breathing.

Funny thing is, they’re still profitable. Just less so. Like me after three days in Lisbon — still walking, still talking, still smiling — just lighter in the wallet and heavier in the conscience.
